
A group of fifteen Hawkes Bay settlers have got together and formed the Pukehou Historic Book Trust with the intention of producing a book of the early history of the Te Aute area through to the present day titled “Opening the Gate”. This district is situated in Hawkes Bay on the East Coast of the North Island of New Zealand and deals with New Zealand History, written by New Zealanders.
The struggles some of the families had, the Land Grants, the triumphs,
the building of the roads and the big event the construction of the
railway and
roads. Draining of the swamp land made productive farms, the interaction
of cultures and the development of the schools and Te Aute College.
The book has approximately 400 A4 sized pages, contains text, maps and
many pictures and is bound in two forms. Hard Covered case bound, and
a sewn soft
covered version.. It will be launched in October 2006 and will retail
for NZ$ 65.00 and NZ$43.00.
However we are offering a discounted price, of $35 for the soft
cover edition and $55 for the hard cover, if orderd on the internet.
